Hail & Ride

17 May, 2011 ·

This weekend Ted’s Regent Street store celebrated the unveiling of it’s RIBA designed window. Passers by were invited into store by Ted’s Bus Conductor where they had the chance to rummage in the lucky dip suitcase as well as enter an exclusive competition with the London Transport Museum to win two season tickets for the museum, and a moquette cube using their own choice of real London Transport Bus or Tube upholstery.

Sunday saw a fantastic performance by Ted’s BUSker, soulful violinist Marques Toliver, who performed to a growing crowd of shoppers eager to have a dip in Ted’s suitcase!

The Great Escape came to a spectacular conclusion on Saturday with exciting performances from Malpas, Dry the River, Antlers, Okkervil River, Yuck, The Vaccines and Sufjan Stevens to name but a few.

Dressed Ted to toe, Alana Stewart gave the lucky crowd gathered at Ted’s Brighton store an intimate performance. A million miles from her New York subway busking days, she delighted the audience with soon-to-be hits from EP ‘The Misuse of Chemistry’.

Over on the Ted and hmv’s Next Big Thing stage, Malpas got the venue rocking with a synth spectacular worthy of Depeche Mode. Dry the River’s blend of Americana rock followed, performing favourites such as ‘Bible Belt’ and ‘New Ceremony’ which brought the crowd to the brink of lighter waving end to the set.

Indie rockers, The Antlers, came on next and were reminiscent of Arcade Fire with their melancholy anthems. While Okkervil River proved a worthy final act as they tore up the Ted & hmv stage – metaphorically! They played songs from new album ‘I Am Very Far’, before the Vice team took over with a selection of bands and DJs that had the crowd dancing into the small hours.

Ted’s festival highlights include Saturday’s headliner Sufjan Stevens, who packed out the Dome and played an almighty set to his fans. The Guillemots were on fine form as they delivered a street gig next to the Ted photobooth in the festival hub. The Vaccines sent the Corn Exchange into a frenzy with songs from their new album, ‘What Did You Expect from the Vaccines’. And to top it all, the sun was shining for the entire weekend!

The Vaccines

Lucky delegate pass winner, Josh Renault, had an amazing time discovering new favourites Lanterns on the Lake, The Staves, Trevor Moss and Hannah Lou, while renewing his love for James VMcM and the Guillemots.

Ted’s photobooth definitely saw the most action over the weekend, with hundreds of festival goers passing through to get a memento of the weekend. See if you can spot yourself in any of the photos http://on.fb.me/iwDfXZ.

Make sure you check out Ted’s Facebook and Twitter pages for more information and pictures from the weekend and visit Ted’s YouTube Channel for gig footage and the chance to see the fantastic animation that got all of the Concorde2 talking!

Described as ‘One To Watch’ by the Guardian, the pop-rock starlet Alice Gold serenaded those that managed to secure a place in Ted’s heaving Brighton store yesterday. Not stopped by the weather, by passers stopped to catch a glance of her playing outside the Brighton store.

Crowds begin to queue for Ed Sheeran

Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran was up on Ted and hmv’s Next Big Thing stage and after his Jools Holland performance last month, he drew a huge crowd and some unlucky fans turned away. Lucky, he lived up to everyone’s expectations and had a roaring cheer to the finale track, ‘A Team’. Anthemic rockers, the View, had some way to go in proving they have grown up from the days of their debut album Hats Off to the Buskers’. The lad’s Scottish charm wooed the audience and the tracks played from their new album ‘Bread Circuses’ had the crowd in a mosh pit that would have rivaled that of teenage fans.

Friendly Fires at the Dome

Meanwhile, headliners Friendly Fires went down a storm at venue Concorde 2 with many festival punters left disappointed as the queue to get in went around the block. The threesome played rock-pop hits from their first self-titled album as well as new album, Pala.

During the day Ted’s photobooth in the Hub Area of the festival was still the centre of attention, attracting hoards of people throughout the day. Have a look at the action and if you were down at The Great Escape, see if your picture’s up here.

Yesterday saw the highly anticipated launch of Brighton’s Great Escape festival that Ted’s proudly supporting. Thankfully it was clear skies as natives and out-of-towners alike headed to the festival’s Hub Area where Ted’s photobooth proved pretty popular. Set up on grass with a surrounding picket fence, it was a sure-fire way to ensure attendees had a little keepsake of their time at The Great Escape. Check out the pictures here.

Over on Ted and hmv’s Next Big Thing stage, Rizzle Kicks, who performed at Wednesday’s launcy party, was first up. The urban up-and-comers worked the crowd with their upbeat lyrical talent that literally blew the crowd away. Noticeably, one of the duo was spotted wearing one of Ted’s Great Escape branded tee’s.

Next up was Ipswich-born, Dels. Having recorded tracks with Joe Goddard from Hot Chip as well as The XX, his melting pot of influences made for more than pleasurable listening. The talented MC draws on an eclectic mix of hip-hop and electronica and warmed up the crowd with tracks such as ‘Trumpalump’ and ‘Shapeshift’.

After that, the crowd were clearly eager for London-born rapper, Example. With upbeat radio-friendly play songs such as ‘Shot Yourself in the Foot Again’ and ‘Kickstarts’, he went down a treat. Meanwhile DJ Shadow was headlining at The Dome with ‘Def Surrounds Us’ and other tracks from his impending release, scheduled for late 2011.

Ted Baker hosted a book signing for fashion photographer and judge from America’s Next Top Model Nigel Barker in celebration of his new book, ‘The Beauty Equation’.

Last night saw the launch party for the Great Escape festival in Brighton that kicks off today.

Hosted at The Haunt, a few of Ted’s Brighton team were in attendance to catch the perfomances from Mirrors, Rizzle Kicks and Holy Vessels that got everyone in the swing of things.

Ted’s got a photobooth set up in the festival ‘Hub Area’ to capture the magic of the festival goers and Brighton natives alike. Check out the results so far here and stay tuned for a update of what happens this evening that will be posted tomorrow.
