Once in a July moon

10 July, 2009 ·

In 1979 in Laguna Niguel, California, a man named K T Smith offered a free drink to anyone who would run across the street and moon the next Amtrak train to pass by. A few people took him up on the challenge and a tradition was born.

The unofficial event now takes place every year on the second Saturday in July. Enthusiastic mooners congregate across the road from Mugs Away pub and bare their buttocks at the passing trains.

If you’re in the area, we’d love to see you bare your wares. Send us your photos or stories about the event.
