They’ve also taken part in the Milton Keynes half marathon in preparation. This is no mean feat, but that’s just the start of it. Around 45,000 people will visit St George, South Carolina for the weird and wonderful World Grits Festival. They’ll enjoy a grits-eating contest, corn tossing and corn shelling competitions, as well as the crowning of ‘Miss Grits’. For those of you not familiar with American cuisine, grits is maize or corn; a bit like porridge or polenta.
The highlight of the festival is the Rolling in the Grits competition. Competitors queue up to dive into a pool filled with cold grits and whoever gets the most stuck to their body wins. The event also features bands and local DJs throughout the evening.
